Farmers in Upper Kuttanad hit by unreasonable demands of millers
The paddy procurement crisis in the Upper Kuttanad region has deepened, as rice millers continue to stay away from collecting harvested paddy amid the threat of ongoing summer rains. Farmers are expressing frustration, claiming that, despite efforts from local authorities, millers are imposing unreasonable demands on procurement conditions, which are pushing them further into hardship.
This season started with optimism following last year's near-normal monsoon, but the recent rains have shaken farmers' confidence just when harvesting began. Exploiting the situation, millers are now seeking additional concessions, creating further difficulties for the farmers.
