Amid price volatility, delay in subsidy distribution has rubber farmers in fix

EVEN as the price of natural rubber continues to be volatile in the domestic market, the delay in distributing the re-planting or new planting subsidies has added to the distress of farmers.
Farmers said that despite repeated requests, they have not received planting subsidies for the past couple of years.
Earlier, the subsidy distribution was disrupted following technical glitches with the portal. Once this issue was resolved, a clerical mistake in the Rubber Board further messed up the subsidy distribution process with funds being incorrectly allocated to farmers. While some farmers received more money than they were entitled to, others did not receive the full amount. This has caused further delays in the distribution of subsidies.
Meanwhile, Rubber Board sources said the issue has been rectified and the entire subsidy will be distributed before the end of this fiscal year.
