The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday refused to grant interim bail to social media content creator Sharmishta Panoli, arrested for allegedly making controversial remarks in now-deleted videos targeting a community in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

The vacation bench of Justice Partha Sarathi Mukherjee said while free speech is protected, it must not cross limits that infringe upon sentiments of others. "The sentiments of a section of people of our country have been hurt. We have freedom of speech but that does not mean you hurt sentiments of others. Our country is full of diversity. Our country is diverse, with all persons from different caste, creed, religion... We must be cautious by saying this,"
