Life comes to standstill in some parts during trade unions' day-long strike

THE nationwide general strike by ten trade unions spearheaded by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) significantly impacted life across the country on Wednesday due to closure of public offices, besides blockage of road and rail transport.
A near-total bandh was observed in Puducherry, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Kerala, West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Goa, Meghalaya, and Manipur. A partial strike prevailed in Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Industrial and sector-specific strikes were organised in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat.
