COMMERCE and industry minister Piyush Goyal used the inauguration of Startup Mahakumbh as an opportunity to deliver some hard-hitting advice to Indian start-up founders.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the current focus on grocery delivery and ice cream making, he urged entrepreneurs to pivot towards high-tech industries like semiconductors, machine learning, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
"Are we going to be happy being delivery boys and girls? Is that the destiny of India? This is not just a start-up; this is entrepreneurship," Goyal remarked, drawing a comparison between Indian and Chinese start-ups.
