After 23-km chase, Army kills driver for jumping checkpost in Baramulla

AFTER 23-km chase, a truck driver was shot dead by army for allegedly jumping their check post in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
In another incident, a person, who was alleged to be Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants and picked up for questioning by police in J&K's border district of Kathua, committed suicide after being allegedly subjected to brutal physical and mental torture in police custody.
The two deaths have evoked strong condemnation, prompting the police and administration to order a time-bound probe into the death of alleged OGW in Kathua. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed both the incidents as unfortunate and said he has taken it up with the Centre and insisted that both incidents are inquired into in a time-bound and transparent manner.
