IMF Cuts India's Growth Target by 30 bps to 6.2%

AMID the spectre of tariff war, the IMF has cut India's GDP growth targets for FY26 and FY27 to 6.2% and 6.3%, respectively, from 6.5% predicted earlier.

In its latest World Growth Outlook report, the international financial agency said despite the global uncertainties, India's growth outlook is relatively more stable at 6.2% in FY26, supported by private consumption, particularly in rural areas.

The IMF's FY26 GDP growth estimate for India is much lower than RBI's projection of 6.5%. Moody's has also recently revised its India growth target for FY26 to 5.5-6.5% from its February estimate of 6.6%.
