Hand in Hand, Empowering Differently-Abled Children

The public education sector in Kozhikode is getting noticed due to the efforts of Samagra Shiksha Kerala (SSK) to bring the differently-abled children to mainstream education.
Under the Inclusive Education for Disabled Children (IEDC) scheme, the Samagra Shiksha Kerala has identified 22,795 differently-abled schoolchildren in the district. In 33 regular medical camps conducted in 2024, around 1,064 children attended and sought help. There are 83 therapeutic centres under the SSK and 1,431 children are regulars there.
"Ensuring the safety of the kids' future is not restricted to their parents but it is a collective responsibility. For this, love and care are not the only requirement. Making them financially independent by providing required facilities and educating them is equally important. The Samagra Shiksha Kerala, Kozhikode has come up with several programmes for giving them and their parents helping hands," said AK Abdul Hakkim, district programme officer.
