Vachana translation workshop begins

TWO-day workshop on translation of vachanas (into Japanese, German, and Spanish languages) jointly organised by Basava Peetha of Central University of Karnataka, Basava Samithi Bengaluru, began at Central University of Karnataka (CUK) here on Thursday.
Inaugurating the workshop, the vice-chancellor of CUK Prof Battu Satyanarayan said that the credit of forming the world's 'first parliament' should go to the Sharanas of the 12th century. He further said that chairperson of Basava Samithi Aravind Jatti is doing the service of taking vachana philosophy and ideals of 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara to the world.
"Through translation of vachanas we are able to reach a global audience. Books will help us to reach many generations, because humans are mortal and books are immortal," he said.
