Roads Turn Rivers in Gokarna as Heavy Rain Batters UK District

The coastal taluks of Uttara Kannada district witnessed heavy rainfall for the past two days causing waterlogging on roads, overflowing of streams and rivulets, minor landslides and damage to several buildings.

The holy town of Gokarna town was the worst-hit due to flooding of roads due to poor maintenance of the drainage system.

Several kilometers of roads in Gokarna which receives thousands of tourists on a daily basis —for temple tourism and beach tourism — were flooded with rainwater. The waterlogged places have left many vehicles stranded since last Friday due to the unattended drains which are choked. "The drains have not been cleared and to add to this there are huge potholes in which vehicles get submerged up to half their size," said Raje Gouda, an auto driver here.
