Promote organic raisin production for European exports: Growers

With an objective of promoting chemical-free, export-quality raisin production which can be exported to European countries, the grape growers from across South India have advocated the need for the government to frame a specific set of guidelines that encourage organic practices and reduce chemical use.
A release from the office of APMC Minister, Shivanand Patil said that the delegates met the minister to submit such a proposal which was attended by representatives of grape growers' associations of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
With regard to the excessive usage of chemicals and pesticides in cultivating grapes, they said the unscientific usage is affecting the quality of raisins despite high yields.
