In the wake of high maternal and child deaths due to malnutrition in the Kalyan Karnataka region compared to other parts of the state, Karnataka State Child Rights Protection Commission (CRPC) chairman Nagana Gowda K said that the commission will submit a proposal to the government to eliminate malnutrition in the region. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said, "We have recently seen deaths of pregnant women and children in the Ballari and Vijayanagara districts. Cases are also being reported frequently in Yadgir. If the mother does not get nutritious food, how can healthy children be born?"

He said that the commission will submit an advisory report to the government on remedial measures in this regard. In order to protect the rights of children, the state government implemented the Karnataka State Child Protection Policy Act in 2016, which must be followed compulsorily, he assured.

"We cannot wash our hands off the issue of children only by saying that the Women and Child Welfare Department is concerned with the issue of children. Child protection is possible only when all government departments work in coordination with each other," he said.
