MP for Filing Review Petition in SC on OC Order
The New Indian Express Kalaburagi
|June 02, 2025
BELAGAVI MP and former chief minister Jagadish Shettar has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take urgent steps with regard to a recent Supreme Court judgment concerning building permissions and occupancy certificates (OCs).
In a letter addressed to the chief minister, Shettar urged the state government to seek a review of the ruling due to its potential impact on millions of ordinary citizens.
The Supreme Court, in its judgment dated on December 17, 2025, under Civil Appeal nos 14604/2024 and 14605/2024 ruled that essential services like electricity, drinking water, and sewage connections can only be provided to buildings that have valid building approval and an occupancy certificate. This order applies uniformly to structures across cities, towns, and rural areas.
