The banned insurgent group in a statement said one of its senior-most leaders, "lieutenant general" Nayan Asom, had died in a drone attack and when his last rites were being performed, the missile attack was carried out, killing "brigadier" Ganesh Asom and "colonel" Pradip Asom.

The ULFA-I further stated that its several other members as well as some civilians were injured in the "cruel and inhuman" missile attack.
