A month after UCC rollout, Uttarakhand records only seven live-in registrations

UTTARAKHAND, the first state in independent India to implement the Uniform Civil Code, has been experiencing a tepid response in live-in relationship registrations since its enactment a month ago.

Since the UCC came into effect on January 27, only seven couples have registered their relationships under this new law, while marriage registrations have seen a much more enthusiastic response.

A local official said, "While we anticipated a broader interest in live-in registrations, the significant uptick in marriage registrations indicates that traditional unions still hold strong appeal in our society."
