Joida to be converted into first organic taluk of Karnataka

THE state government, in its budget presented on Friday, has announced that Joida taluk in Uttara Kannada district will be converted into the first organic taluk in the state.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made this announcement in his budgetary speech.

The long-pending demand to convert Joida into an organic taluk will now become a reality. The announcement has been made to promote sustainable organic farming and the farmers here will be provided with organic certification so that they get a better market access for their produce. TNIE had earlier written about the efforts of officials seeking an organic tag for the taluk in 2021.

To promote agriculture products in Joida, which are grown naturally, the Department of Agriculture had recommended to declare the entire taluk as organic in 2021. The Commissionerate of Agriculture had written a letter to the joint director of Agriculture Department to conduct a meeting with the stakeholders then.
