Inevitable, says minister on hike in fees by govt colleges, hospitals

Says despite hike, fee is quite meagre compared to private hospitals
DEFENDING the increase in various charges by medical college hospitals, including OPD charges, Medical Education Minister Dr Sharanaprakash Patil said, no public healthcare providing institution can entirely depend on the government's support to grow and provide quality healthcare services.
Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Minister Patil said, the issue came for discussion during the previous legislative session, but the hike was nominal, and it was inevitable for these institutions to sustain.
Moreover, as these institutions have advanced healthcare facilities, the charges collected from patients were quite meagre compared to private hospitals.
