Harassment by moneylenders drives man to end his life

Staff of microfinance companies started harassing Umesh by visiting his house after 9 pm daily & shouting at him
BARELY a month after the state government brought in the Karnataka Micro Loan and Small Loan (Prevention of Coercive Actions) Bill 2025, aimed at preventing money lenders from violating human rights by harassing the borrowers, a daily wager committed suicide allegedly due to harassment from money lenders in Gadag.
The incident took place in Betageri Narasapur Ashray Colony near Gadag on late Thursday night. The deceased Umesh Katwa, 40, ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan in his house.
