Doc abducted for ransom, released the same day

IN a dramatic turn of events that unfolded in Ballari district on Saturday, a doctor was kidnapped by a gang of four to five men who demanded Rs 2 crore in cash and Rs 4 crore worth gold biscuits as ransom for his release, but ended up releasing him on the same day.
The victim is Dr Sunil P, who works as a pediatrician in the district hospital.
On realizing that the police had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers, the latter abandoned the doctor in an agricultural land at Sumasamdra village in Kampli taluk of Ballari district on Saturday evening, gave him Rs 300 and told him to return home.
Shobha Rani V J, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ballari, told "The New Indian Express" that the kidnap case was solved by the Ballari police within 14 hours of the incident.
