AS the Uttar Pradesh authorities ensure all Pakistani nationals residing in the state cross the international border before the deadline, the cases of two women who refuse to leave India intrigue them.

One is Maryam, who says she is India's "bahu" (daughter-in-law). The other is Seema, who prefers dying to going back to Pakistan. And both have appealed to the Prime Minister and President to show leniency.

Maryam, a young Pakistani woman and three months pregnant, has petitioned the President and the Prime Minister to allow her to stay back in India with her Indian husband.

The deadline for Pakistani nationals to return to their home country after the 'Leave India' notice has passed.
