MUKKULAM panchayat has accomplished the seemingly impossible task of eradicating the invasive Prosopis Juliflora (seemai karuvelam) trees from water bodies, through one year of combined efforts of BDO office, panchayat and participation of residents.
In a water-starved district like Dharmapuri, the seemai karuvelam tree is a nuisance which must be eradicated at all cost. But it is not an easy task because of the plants' capability to survive in the harshest conditions.
However, Mukkulam panchayat has cleared the invasive plant from over five lakes, fields and government lands.
