Gujarat govt admits crop losses in yards, but ₹85 cr for storage lies idle

In a startling admission in the Gujarat Assembly on Tuesday, the state government acknowledged that crops left in the marketing yards suffer massive damage from unexpected rain.
Despite ₹124 crore allocated over two years to strengthen marketing yards infrastructure, ₹85 crore earmarked for storage remains untouched.
The contradiction is glaring as farmers face losses while the government's funds to prevent them lie unused. As of December 31, 2024, agricultural crops across Gujarat's marketing yards were exposed to seasonal and unseasonal rain, triggering extensive damage.
