Farmers Urged to Plant Tomatoes for Ketchup to Combat Price Fluctuation

Officials from the horticulture department have urged the farmers to participate in a pilot project to see the feasibility of planting a new tomato variety and utilizing it for producing sauce or ketchup in local factories.
Last month, the horticulture, agriculture marketing department, and revenue officials studied parts of Palacode to determine whether locally sourced tomatoes could be used to produce sauce or ketchup. However, as the local varieties are not compatible with sauce production, the horticulture department urged the farmers to participate in a trial run to see if new varieties of tomatoes suitable for sauce manufacturing could be grown here.
