BJP national executive committee member and former party state president K Annamalai accused the state of mishandling temple assets and failing to maintain transparency in the administration of temple revenues.

Coimbatore:

Addressing a public gathering organised by Hindu Munnani in Thudiyalur, during immersion of Vinayagar idols on Friday, Annamalai said despite having over 46,000 temples and vast tracts of temple lands, it receives around ₹300 crore annually from HR&CE department. He claimed over 1 lakh acres of temple land have been lost since 1986 and temple-owned properties continue to be leased at throwaway rates, some as low as ₹1.
