CCMC Decides to Release Treated Sewage Water into City Lake, Residents Worried

ENVIRONMENTALISTS working for conservation of waterbodies expressed concern over the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation's (CCMC) proposal to discharge treated sewage water into Chinnavedampatti Lake, after setting up a treatment plant.
Chinnavedampatti Lake, the major water source of north Coimbatore, is spread over an area of about 200 acres. The lake is under the ambit of the Water Resources Department (WRD). The lake has been dry since 1992, due to lack of rain and erosion of the water channel. To rejuvenate the waterbody, environmentalists formed the lake Protection Committee and have been working with public cooperation, for the last eight years, sources said. Environmentali
