One of the most immediate and noticeable effects of poor air quality is on the respiratory system. Short-term effects are caused by irritation and injury due to pollutants such as particulate matter, ozone, and nitrogen dioxide. Exposure to poorquality air can lead to symptoms like wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath.
