In first conviction after ouster, Hasina sentenced to 6 months in jail by ICT

IN an escalation of legal action against Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a three-member bench of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Wednesday sentenced her to six months in prison for contempt of court.
This marks the first time that the Awami League leader has been sentenced in any case.
The verdict, delivered by ICT Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortaza Mozumder, marks the first conviction against the former PM since her removal from office in August 2024 following a student-led uprising. The tribunal ruled that Hasina's remarks made in exile had "undermined the dignity and authority" of the court.
