A youth was brutally hacked to death on the main road of Koppal town on Sunday night over an alleged love affair between him and a girl from another community.

- RAGHOTTAM KOPPAR @Koppal

The deceased is Gavidsiddappa Nayak (27), who was in love with a girl named Bhanu.

Bhanu's cousin Sadiq Kolkar, along with three other youth, attacked Gavisiddappa in ward number 3 with two machetes on his neck and head, killing him on the spot. Police have filed a case under Section 103(1) BNS 2023, SC-ST Act 1989.

Gavisiddappa and Bhanu first met at Agro company where they were employed. Both fell in love and planned to elope as the elders of their families objected to their relationship. After this issue, Bhanu's marriage was fixed with Sadiq who threatened Gavisiddappa to stay away from her, but he did not.

When Gavisiddappa was passing near a mosque on his two-wheeler, Sadiq and the three others attacked him around 8:15 pm. Two youth attacked Gavisiddappa with machetes on his neck and head, following which Gavisiddappa fell down and died. Some residents who were passing by the main road were stunned and said that they had seen such horrific scenes only in movies.

Why Economists Are Urging Caution Despite Strong GDP Growth in First Qtr

DESPITE India's economy growing stronger-than-expected at 7.8% in the first quarter of FY26, economists caution that the growth print looks brighter than the underlying reality—thanks largely to a sharp drop in the GDP deflator from 3.4% in the previous quarter to 1% in Q1 of FY26, the lowest in 6 years.
