A research team from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kurnool, has achieved a landmark success by developing India's first indigenously built underwater drone.

- K MADHU SUDHAKAR @Kurnool

The drone was successfully deployed in the Srisailam reservoir and the Gorukallu reservoir for experimental trials at a depth of 40 meters, capturing high-resolution underwater video footage.

The team, led by Associate Professor Dr. K Krishna Naik and Assistant Professor Dr. Ravi Kumar Mandava, comprised four faculty members and four students from various departments.

According to Naik, "These deployments are part of our ongoing research into underwater drone systems at both Srisailam and Gorukallu."

The drone, entirely designed and developed in-house at IIITDM Kurnool, is equipped with advanced sensors and video capturing equipment.
