Officials estimate process to take 100 hours; 20 out of 86 metres vertical drilling completed
THE 41 labourers trapped in the collapsed under-construction Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand may have to spend a few more days underground as the rescue team started the time-consuming vertical drilling on Sunday, a day after the horizontal drilling process failed.
Officials said 86 metres will have to be drilled down; by Sunday evening, the rescue workers completed 20 metres of 1.2-metre diameter escape route. Another 66 metres to go.
