Govt seeks 30 days to finalise quota for backward classes in panchayats
The Telangana High Court has reserved its orders on a batch of six writ petitions seeking a direction to the state government and the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct elections to local bodies where the term of elected representatives ended on January 31, 2024. Justice T Madhavi Devi, who is hearing the matter, asked the state government to inform the court of the date by which it intends to hold elections to the gram panchayats.
During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Md Imran Khan informed the court that the government requires 30 days to finalise and declare reservations for BCs in local bodies, in line with Supreme Court directives.
