THE Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA) for not taking steps to strengthen the self-regulatory framework of television channels.

Taking the example of the ₹1 lakh fine imposed on TV channels that violate the NBDA guidelines, the court questioned its effectiveness given that the amount - fixed 15 years ago - is just a fraction of the channel's earnings.
