NIA allowed to collect voice, handwriting samples of Rana

THE Special NIA Court has authorized the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to collect voice and handwriting samples from Tahawwur Rana, the alleged mastermind behind the 26/11 attacks.
Special NIA Judge Chander Jit Singh of the Patiala House Courts approved the NIA's request on Wednesday to obtain both handwriting and voice samples from Rana.
Earlier, on Monday, the Court had extended NIA custody of Rana for an additional 12 days.
The proceedings were conducted in chambers.
NIA told the court that Tahawwur Rana could potentially reveal crucial information about the Lashkar-e-Taiba and its upcoming terror operations.
The NIA, as per sources, said that Hafiz Saeed, who is an accused in the case, continues to lead a terror outfit responsible for attacks in India.
Therefore, Rana's interrogation was necessary to uncover key operational aspects of the group.
