A toxic gas leak at a private company’s effluent treatment plant (ETP) in Sokhda village in Anand district, claimed two workers, while two others are critical; reigniting serious concerns over industrial safety practices in Gujarat.

- DILIP SINGH KSHATRIYA

The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Thursday when Kishan Baraiya (27) entered the ETP tank to clear a blockage. Within moments, he collapsed, allegedly overcome by toxic fumes. When 63-year-old Arvind Babubhai rushed in to rescue him, he met the same fate. Both were declared dead when shifted to hospital.
