Equity benchmarks fall over 1%; mid, small-cap remain steady

DOMESTIC equity market faced heavy selling pressure on Friday as geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan flared up sharply.
Benchmark indices — the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty — plunged over 1% each, reflecting investor jitters.
The 30-share BSE Sensex pack slumped 880 points or 1.10% to close at 79,454 while the NSE barometer Nifty fell 266 points or 1.10% to settle at 24,008. The broader market showed some resistance as the BSE Mid-cap index ended flat, while the BSE small-cap index was down 0.3%
