England pacers help team bounce back as visitors set 371-run target

ENGLAND repaid Australia with short-ball bowling to rein in the visitors on the fourth morning of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s on Saturday, bundling out the Pat Cummins-led side for 279. The hosts need 371 to win the match and level series 1-1.

Even as the ninth wicket fell when they were on 264, injured Nathan Lyon hopped out, literally, to bat, ensuring that his team got the few extra runs to defend. Braving his injury and the constant bouncer barrage from England, Lyon, along with Mitchell Starc, frustrated Ben Stokes & Co.
While they might have added just 15 runs for the last wicket before Lyon eventually fell to Stuart Broad, the Australian spinner’s valiant effort was enough to pump up his teammates the dressing room.
They will need all the inspiration and adrenaline in their attempt to defend the total without the services of the veteran spinner.
