Docs told to comply with order on generic drugs

FOLLOWING the directions by the National Medical Commission which mandated the doctors to prescribe only generic drugs to the patients, top hospitals including All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) have asked their medicos to follow the suit stating that disobedience of the order will be viewed "seriously."
According to orders issued separately by the hospitals, the consultants and resident doctors have been asked to write medicines available in the health centres, pharmacy or Jan Aushadhi stores.
"As per the NMC's new guidelines, all consultants and residents (PG & SR) need to prescribe generic medicines in OPD and from hospital pharmacy only. Disobedience will be viewed seriously," the directions issued by the RML read.
