KISHTWAR district of Jammu and Kashmir, where about 66 people were killed and 31 are still missing in cloudburst and flash floods triggered by heavy rain last month, is highly vulnerable to glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), posing a serious threat to human lives, power projects, roads, schools, hospitals, religious places and agriculture, warned the GLOF Disaster Management Plan for Kishtwar in its latest report.
Kishtwar, which lies in the heart of the Western Himalayas, bordered by the Pir Panjal range to the south and the Zanskar range to the north, has the highest number of glacial lakes in J&K, with 197, which accounts for 36.08% of all
