Can't stay CEC Act dropping CJI from panel: SC

Apex court also refuses to stay the appointment of two election commissioners, will hear the matter on March 19
THE Supreme Court on Friday refused to stay the Chief Election Commissioner Act, 2023, which dropped the Chief Justice of India (CJI) from the panel that appoints Chief Election Commissioners (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs).
A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and AG Masih, also refused to stay the appointment of two new ECs after hearing a batch of pleas challenging the Act. However, it agreed to examine the pleas on March 19.
