Weirdness in the White House

HOO boy! Sturm und drang! And emanating, most of it, from the White House. What could have been a lowkey interaction between two presidents in public anyway - became a scripted altercation involving a controversial movie and a controversial South African politico who is not a role player in government anyway.

Watching the confrontation between US President Donald Trump and President Cyril Ramaphosa, it was impossible to judge with clarity who was being accused of what.

Was Trump aware that the individual who chants “Kill the farmer, kill the Boer!” is not in Ramaphosa’s party nor in the government he heads?

Was he aware that the movie screened to illustrate an instinct for violence against whites had a section set in the Congo, not in South Africa at all?

Is this not embarrassing, apart from anything else? Presumably, the unspoken message is that South Africa can expect little or nothing from the US by way of further economic support. Which would be a great pity because increased poverty would serve the cause of the minority who speak of revolutionary violence.
