THE arrests of former Transnet executives Brian Molefe and Siyabonga Gama on fraud and corruption charges related to a R93 million consulting tender are a long-overdue step in holding alleged State Capture figures to account.

The tender, awarded in 2015, was allegedly manipulated to benefit Gupta-linked Regiments Capital, with the Zondo Commission years ago recommending criminal investigations into Molefe, Gama and Anoj Singh, another Transnet executive.
Yet it has taken nearly a decade for charges to materialise - an indictment of South Africa's sluggish justice system and a troubling reflection of political inertia.
