Key focus areas for Ramaphosa's US visit

AS PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa is preparing for tomorrow's meeting at the White House with US President Donald Trump, experts have warned that he is likely to face a tough audience. Ramaphosa is being accompanied by four cabinet ministers on the high stakes visit to Washington.
Ties between Pretoria and Washington have plummeted since Trump took office in January and Ramaphosa’s visit is seen as an attempt to reset the relationship.
A priority is securing trade relations in order to “protect jobs, grow the economy and expand employment opportunities”, Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen has said. He is part of the delegation. Others include International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and Trade and Industry Minister Parks Tau.
The United States is South Africa's second-largest trading partner behind China.
