Green's record deal sparks debate over best role

AUSTRALIA all-rounder Cameron Green made headlines yesterday after being roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a record R46 million at the IPL 2026 auction, held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Due to a mistake by his manager during player auction registration, Green was initially listed as a batter. He later clarified that he would be available to bowl as well during the tournament.
By confirming his availability as an all-rounder, he surpassed the previous record held by his Australia teammate Mitchell Starc, who was bought by KKR at the IPL 2024 auction.
Green made his IPL debut in the 2023 season after Mumbai Indians (MI) acquired him. At the time, he became the second-most-expensive overseas player in IPL auction history, the third-most expensive player overall, and the most expensive Australian player.
