Waste reduction week - a great springboard for better habits

DURING the European Week for Waste Reduction (November 10-16), I’m excited we in the North East are joining communities across the continent in celebrating recycling and highlighting how each of us can make a real difference to our environment.

This year the focus is on waste electrical and electronic equipment - everything from large items like fridges and freezers to mobile phones, laptops, toasters and even individual batteries. The more of these electronic items we buy, the more we look to discard as new models and designs come onto the market and older items break. By rescuing them from the rubbish bin and recycling them instead, we're giving them a second chance whilst reducing waste and protecting our planet.
