PCC under fire as plan for affordable homes is scrapped

THE Northumbria police and crime commissioner (PCC) has come under fire from a top Tory councillor in Northumberland after plans for affordable housing to replace dilapidated ex-police homes failed to materialise.
The properties in Hexham have been sold to developer Anvil Homes, with plans to create “high-quality” housing.
No details have yet been made public on the scheme or the provision of affordable homes.
However, Northumberland County Council's cabinet member for housing, Coun Colin Horncastle, hit out at PCC Susan Dungworth, claiming her predecessor had planned to create a 100% affordable development on the prime town centre site.
Coun Horncastle said: “While I have no issues with Anvil homes, a very good local builder of high-quality homes, the affordable housing aspect is worrying.
