The Journal
|December 06, 2025
THE happiest place to live in the North East has been revealed - with Hexham again taking the prize.
-
The Northumberland town has been crowned the happiest place to live in our region, according to Rightmove's “happy at home index”.
It was also voted tenth happiest place to live in the whole of the UK and has made the top many times before.
Elsewhere in the North East, Newcastle was the second most happiest place, with Darlington third, Sunderland fourth and Durham fifth.
People who live in a rural location are more likely to say they feel happy where they lived than urban and suburban dwellers.
