New screening could catch cancer earlier
The Journal
|February 26, 2026
A NEW cancer screening service in South Tyneside uses artificial intelligence and can scan someone's whole body in around 45 minutes.
-
The service is offered by private firm Ezra at the Integrated Diagnostic Centre at South Tyneside District Hospital.
There, the state-of-the-art MRI scanners are used to give patients a detailed scan - the results of which will be seen and analysed by experts within days.
The idea is to help people stay on top of their health and catch cancer as early as possible.
