New bins to be delivered ahead of rollout for glass recycling
The Journal
|November 14, 2025
A MAJOR shakeup of recycling in Northumberland will see glass recycling finally rolled out across the county.
As part of the wide-ranging plans, households will also get a third bin to separate types of waste.
From October next year, paper, card and cardboard will be collected in a black, 240-litre bin with a burgundy coloured lid. Kerbside recycling will be extended to include glass, plastic pots, tubs and trays, metal foils and flexible plastic films collected in the existing co-mingled recycling bin.
Currently, recycling bins are collected fortnightly. This will change so that alternate bins are collected on those days, leaving a four-week gap between collections of each type of recycling bin.
