MILLIONS INVESTED IN NEW PROJECTS TO HELP SICK BACK TO WORK

Two new multi-million pound projects have been announced to support the health of people in the North East keep jobs or find them.

This week the Government has announced that the North East is one of nine areas to benefit from the expansion of the "connect to work" programme.
That will see £49.7m directed towards around 13,800 people who may be sick or disabled and will, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) said, provide them with "intensive employment support". This will include by putting specialist employment advisers in GP surgeries and with mental health services.
The Government said the programme "refuses to write off sick and disabled people". This comes as a second scheme - WorkWell - kicks off after receiving £19m to support its focus on helping people to tackle problems from depression to smoking that could put them at risk of having to give up work.
