Major step forward for town's £36m cinema complex

LEADING councillors in Northumberland have approved the business case for a major regeneration scheme in Ashington.
The £36 million project will see the construction of a new cinema and restaurant complex at Portland Park. Work is now set to begin early next year. The site has been empty for almost a decade after it was cleared for development in 2016, leading to the derogatory local nickname of "the Ashington hole".
